Description
Abraham Cuyler produced this tankard in Albany, New York circa 1730’s. The initials on the lid as well as the spout are later. The tankard descended in the Ten Eyck family. Coenraedt Ten Eyck emigrated from the Netherlands in the 1630’s. He founded the very influential American branch of the family. His grandson and great grandson were both silversmiths. Jacob Coenraedt Ten Eyck married Catherine Cuyler, the daughter of Abraham Cuyler. He studied with Le Roux in New York and went on to be a master silversmith. His brother Jacob H. Ten Eyck, to whom this tankard was given, married Annette Wendell, daughter of Albany furrier Harmanus Wendell and his wife Anna. The tankard weighs 35 Oz. 19 Dwt. and stands 7 1/4 inches tall. Although spouted, and therefor much more affordable, it maintains a great appearance.
