Description

This is a very fine federal tea set made by Daniel Van Voorhiis in New York circa 1790. The set weighs 37 Oz. 14 Dwt. The teapot is 12″ in length from the tip of the spout to the end of the handle. The pineapple finials at the top of the teapot and the sugar urn are especially bold. The teapot is marked DVV with an eagle. The sugar is marked twice under the base and twice on the edge of the base with an eagle. The sugar bears traces of a VV Schanck mark, with the “anck” barely discernible. Van Voorhiis is well known in numismatic circles, He was mint master in Rupert, Vermont producing the Vermont coppers with William Coley in 1787-1788. SOLD
