Description

This is a wonderful tankard made by George Hanners in the early years of Boston, circa 1730. Hanners probably apprenticed with Andrew Tyler circa 1710-1717. The terminal of the handle has a British William III Shilling. The I*C on the handle is most likely John Cabot of Portland, Maine. Ruth Nutt’s Hanners tankard was very similar with the shilling on the handle and brought $26,250 in January 2015. This piece, although it has been through auction at least twice as having no condition issues, I feel the finial may have been reattached at a later date and is soldered, not put on with a bolt and nut. Hence our much lower price. The tankard presents very well. It measures 8 1/2 inches tall and weighs 27 Oz. 6 Dwt. Most recently it was in the collection of Donald Partrick.
