Jeremiah Dummer porringer circa 1670- 1680

Jeremiah Dummer porringer, Boston circa 1680. POR

Description

This is the earliest porringer I’ve ever owned. Jeremiah Dummer was from Boston and trained with John Hull and Robert Sanderson. His apprenticeship began in 1659, he was America’s first native born silversmith. Dummer made this porringer about the year 1680. The shape of the handle confirms this. It measures 6 1/4 inches across the top and handle and weighs 3 Ounces 11 DWT. Both marks are completely legible, one on the bottom of the handle and one to it’s left on the outside of the bowl. Dummer was born in 1645 and finished his apprenticeship in 1666.
