Description
This marvelous caudle cup was by Jonathan Clarke, who made it circa 1740 in Newport, Rhode Island. The maker’s mark is a bit soft and there is a light split on the rim. Exhibited Seattle Art Museum American Sampler 2002-2005. Cuadle was a mixture of warm beer and or wine with bread, sugar, eggs and spices. This cup has block letters C/SE to HC for the piece’s original owners. The cup measures 6 1/2 inches in length and weighs 9 Oz. From the Nutt collection.
