Description
This early style salt by Philip Syng Jr. dates from about 1730. It weighs 2 Oz. 11 Dwt. and measures 3 3/8 inches long. It is a wonderful example of his early work. In 1752 he would go on to make the inkstand purchased by the Provincial Assembly and used at the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution of the United States. That inkstand is now on display in Independence Hall. Syng was friends with Benjamin Franklin and a member of his Junta. SOLD
