Description
A Rare American silver brazier by Edward Winslow. Boston, Mass. circa 1715. Length 10 1/3 inches 14 oz tw. Edward Winslow was born in Boston nov. 1, 1669. He most likely apprenticed to Jeremiah Dummer. He held numerous public positions and is known for creating some of the true masterpieces in early American silver. His sugar boxes are quite spectacular and can be found in the collections of MFA, Yale and Winterthur. This brazier or chafing dish would have held coals to warm plates placed above it. This brazier was exhibited in 1956 at MFA, Boston and from 1991 to 1996 at the Seattle Art Museum. Sold
