Description
An American silver octagonal pepper box by Joseph Goldthwait. Boston, Mass circa 1735.
Height 3 3/4 inches 2 oz 10 dwt. Goldthwait most likely apprenticed to John Dixwell and later served as a captain at the siege of Louisbourg in 1745. In 1731 he moved his shop to “the House adjoining the Sign of the Red Lyon”.
