This early spout cup was made by John Dixwell in Boston, Mass. circa 1710. Pilgrim century would be the term used if it were furniture. The cup stands 3 3/4 inches tall and weighs 5 Oz 2 Dwt. John Dixwell was born in New Haven Connecticut in 1680 and was one of the founders of the Old North Church. Many spout cups are known with lids and many are many are lidless as is this. Beautiful and delicate describes this piece.The initials are likely those of Jonathan Atwater (1656-1726) and his wife Ruth Peck (1661-1726). They married June 1, 1681 and both died the same day 6/3/1726. They resided in New Haven Connecticut and had 11 children.
