Philip Syng Jr. is renowned for creating the inkstand displayed in Philadelphia at Independence Hall. This stand, ordered by the Provincial Assembly in  1752, was used at the signing of the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. Philip was friends with Benjamin Franklin and a member of his Junta. He is buried in Christ Church burial ground. This tankard is a wonderful example of his artistry. The tankard stands 6 1/4 inches tall and weighs 20 Oz. 9 Dwt.
