Here is a remarkable complete silver early American tea set made in New York. John Sayre was working at 281 Pearl St until 1801. The set weighs about 75 Oz total and the teapot is 12 1/4 Inches long. Very few sets remain with the teapot stand and the tea caddy. We think this looks absolutely stunning. The mark is that of John Sayre the older brother. The set may actually date to about 1795 as he was actively working then. The MFA Boston has a tea caddy by him very similar to the one in this set that they date as 1795-1800.
