Brothers Joseph Jr. and Nathaniel Richardson followed their father into the silversmithing business. They were the fourth generation of goldsmiths in the family. Their great-grandfather Francis was born in New York in 1681 and moved to Philadelphia in 1690. This cann stands 5 3/8 inches tall and weighs 14 oz. Joseph Jr. would go on to be appointed the first assayer at the Philadelphia mint by George Washington in 1795. SOLD
