Description

This fantastic silver punch ladle is by Standish Barry whose portrait was painted by Rembrandt Peale. Barry worked in Baltimore where he was prominent in public affairs. He is perhaps best known for the tiny silver 3 pence coins he issued in 1790. Those small coins now sell for $50,000 and up in nice condition. This ladle is beautifully made. The ribbed bowl coruscates reflected light and the back of the handle is marked twice “Barry”. The ladle measures 14 inches in length and weighs 5 Oz. 1 DWT. The ladle has little wear and is reminiscent of the Myer Myers ladle sold by Sotheby’s in their 2012 Americana sale. That ladle brought just over 59K.
